Behind every nest monitored, every awareness session held, and every patrol completed, are the helping hands of volunteers. Here’s a look at the stories and highlights from our latest group of changemakers.

Ptolemy Taylor – Hands-on with Turtle Conservation
During his volunteering, Ptolemy actively took part in turtle photo identification/ snorkeling, night patrols, nest excavation and monitoring, gaining practical skills in handling turtle eggs, excavations and protecting nests from threats. His experience highlighted the importance of following protocols to ensure survival rates, while also sharpening his observation skills. He left with a deeper understanding of the delicate balance needed to safeguard marine life.
“The program was worthwhile and meaningful because it gave me a chance to work for a great cause and make a positive impact on wildlife in my hometown.”

Rehema Hassan – Inspiring Young Environmental Stewards
Rehema worked closely with our Environmental Education Coordinator to deliver sessions in local schools on mangroves and marine ecosystems. This experience taught her to communicate complex environmental concepts in simple, engaging ways.
“I realized how important it is to involve children early, because they are the future custodians of the environment.”

Tabbie Harris– Building Skills Through Community Engagement
Through participating in fisheries data review sessions, shark and ray awareness programs and workshops on Nature-Based Solutions, Tabbie discovered the power of inclusive dialogue and community mobilization. She noted that “successful conservation depends not only on science, but also on the understanding and commitment of local people.” Her time with Bahari Hai strengthened her confidence in public speaking, facilitation, and teamwork.

We are deeply grateful for the time, skills, and heart our volunteers brought to Bahari Hai. Their contributions — from fieldwork to education — enriched not only our programs but also our community.

As they move forward in their studies and careers, we are confident they will continue to be ambassadors for conservation, carrying with them the lessons and inspiration gained here at Bahari Hai.

Volunteers are at the heart of what we do, and we look forward to welcoming more changemakers in the coming months.
