Consultancy: Project Cycle Management

Location: Bahari Hai, Watamu, Kilifi County, Kenya

Start date: 1 Feb (or as soon as possible from 1 Feb onwards)

Contract duration: 3-4 months* (dependent on performance review at the end of month 2)
                          *Applicant will propose how much time they can commit per month and the method/programme they will follow.

Bahari Hai is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Project Cycle Management Consultant to assist in mentoring and guiding our team in developing comprehensive project plans and work plans, as well as providing expertise in their effective implementation.

The Bahari Hai team have all undergone initial training on Project Cycle Management and have created and worked off project plans already. However, the team requires further assistance in developing more comprehensive plans and embedding project cycle management disciplines and processes.

We have a budget of KSH 60,000/month for the work and the consultant can determine how much time they can allocate per month to the project and how they would like to conduct the work (method). The approach and time allocation suggested by the candidate will be a critical component in the application review process

RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Collaborate with the Bahari Hai team to assess current project management processes and identify areas for improvement.
  2.  Review existing project plans and provide recommendations for enhancements to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.
  3. Develop and conduct training sessions on project cycle management methodologies, including the creation of detailed project plans, monitoring, and evaluation frameworks.
  4. Provide mentorship and guidance to team members in designing, implementing, and monitoring project plans effectively.
  5. Assist in the establishment of monitoring and evaluation mechanisms to track project progress and outcomes.
SKILLS & COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
Experience & Characteristics Required:
  • Proven experience in project cycle management, with a minimum of 4 years in a similar consultancy, advisory or senior management role.
  • Expertise in developing and implementing project plans, work plans, and monitoring frameworks.
  • Strong facilitation and training skills to effectively transfer knowledge and mentor team members.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 software suite.

Desired:

  • Not a requirement but relevant qualifications are a bonus
  • Fluent in kiSwahili

  • Average participant satisfaction score based on post-training evaluations and feedback
  • Knowledge and skills transfer:
    • Review score on the quality of the workplans and project plans
    • % of team who are effectively implementing project cycle management discipline without active support in month 3
  • Project Implementation Impact:
    • % improvement in project success metrics for projects influenced by the training
      •  On-time delivery – The extent to which projects are completed within the planned timelines
      • Budget adherence
